Hi, I’m Michele – a mom of two from Northern Alberta, Canada.

I even remember being fascinated by the vents when I was a kid. We put cars and other things down them for fun. I’m sure it drove my parents crazy (especially with five kids). Then I totally forgot about it until I became a mom myself.
It all started when my 7 month old, who had just learned to crawl, pulled one of our vent covers off in the living room, which was also his play area. Once he figured out he could do it, he kept going back for more – and it was actually really scary for me because I noticed a lot of screws sticking out on the inside of the vent, and sharp sheet metal around it that he could hurt himself on. Then 2 years later his sister started doing the same thing when she learned to crawl, and she added a new level of frustration to it by putting things down into the vents. So, with no prior experience or any solid plans, I started the invention journey. I designed it, tested it, got a patent pending status, and talked to many manufacturers before I chose one in Canada. I worked for two and a half years before I would hold a ready to sell GuardaVent cover in my hands. It was a lot of time, a lot of money, and a lot of questioning myself – but I pushed through, and I’m so proud of what I created. Now it’s time to share it with other parents!
